Career story  |  Sep 2024

How did you start your career with us/what has your journey been so far?

I joined Waterstons in 2016 as a Transformation Consultant after deciding to change my career path and attending university as a mature student. I started in what was then known as the Transformation Team, now the Advisory Team, and I was fortunate enough to be asked back as a full-time employee. In 2017, I had the opportunity to work within our Managed Services Department as an Incident Manager, which allowed me to experience different parts of the business. In 2018, I was assigned to a significant SAP project in Southeast England, where I spent a year traveling and working as a Test and Hypercare Manager. I loved the experience! Over the years, I've worked on various projects in different capacities. I was promoted to Senior Consultant in April 2020 and moved to the Managed Services Department to temporarily support as a Service Desk Team Lead just a week before lockdown. In December 2021, I was promoted to Service Desk and Problem Management Lead. After my maternity leave, my manager encouraged me to apply for a new role, and in May 2023, I began working as the Delivery Manager in the Technology Solutions Team.

How have you been supported by Waterstons when progressing/changing your job roles?

Throughout my time at Waterstons, I've been fortunate to work in various roles on different projects across the business. The best thing about moving around the company in different roles has been the incredible support I've received. Building a reputation is challenging, but it's even harder without support. At Waterstons, I always had people to turn to who helped me build up my skills and knowledge, allowing for personal and professional growth. I was able to earn my Prince2 and ITIL qualifications because Waterstons encourages and supports continuous learning and development. This support has been a constant throughout my career here.

How has Waterstons supported you with your family life?

Waterstons' culture towards family life is one of the key reasons I stay. My manager and colleagues know my kids by name and genuinely care about them. If I need to attend a sports day, a parents' evening, or any other parental responsibility, I can do so without question. I feel wholly trusted and supported in balancing my work and family life.

What has been your biggest achievement?

My biggest achievement would be graduating from university with first-class honours in a Bachelor's IT degree and being named valedictorian. Waterstons supported me through my final year of university by allowing me to work part-time, ensuring I had the support needed to excel academically and professionally.

What’s your favourite thing about working for Waterstons?

One of the aspects I cherish most about working at Waterstons is the incredible opportunity for progression and the recognition of hard work. Since joining in 2016 as a Transformation Consultant, I've embarked on a rewarding journey of growth and development. Over the years, I've been privileged to take on increasing responsibilities, culminating in my current role as Delivery Manager in the Technology Solutions Team since May 2023.

I am immensely grateful for the unwavering support and encouragement I've received from Waterstons throughout my career. Whether through opportunities to earn certifications or through mentorship and guidance from colleagues and managers, the company has consistently invested in my professional growth. This supportive environment not only fuels my passion for what I do but also empowers me to contribute meaningfully to the company's success.
